I have loved animals all my life!  I was born in Ohio and spend my childhood in the mountains of Kermit, WV.  This afforded me many opportunities as a young child to bring home

stray, injured and wild animals.  This has still not stopped!

I have been working in the veterinary field for over 20 years.  I started as a kennel technician and would spend my spare time watching the doctors and technicians in the treatment areas.  Before too long, I was asked to lend a hand with restraining and treating the patients.  This experience helped me realize the great satisfaction felt when a pet was treated with kindness and respect within the veterinary setting.  It was at this time I recognized my calling.

I became a licensed veterinary technician in 2008.  I have had experience working in general veterinary practice and emergency medicine.  I have also worked in the specialty areas of ophthalmology, dermatology, neurology and radiation oncology.  Dr. Cribb and I initially worked together an an emergency clinic in 2001.  I have worked with him here at Veterinary care center since 2015.

When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family.  At present time I have one human child, four dogs and three cats.  WE love to spend time together outside; walking, hiking, biking and playing in the water.  I re-energize by spending time in nature, reading and watching horror movies.  I am also known to attend the occasional rock concert.

I have been working in the veterinary field for over 30 years.  I started out as a kennel technician and veterinary assistant.  After 3 years I was trained to draw blood, run labs and assist with surgery.  A year later, I left day practice and began working at a local emergency clinic.  After spending16 years working as an emergency technician, I moved to a

specialty and emergency veterinary hospital.  During my 6 years at the emergency and referral center, I worked ICU, as well as the specialty services of surgery, emergency, internal medicine and neurology.

I became a registered technician in March of 2005.  I have been a team member of Veterinary Care Center for six years now.  I work part-time here and you will always see me when one of the full time staff is on vacation.

I was  born and raised right here in Georgia.  I enjoy spending time with my family when I am not at work.  I have two daughters and two grand-daughters, who keep me very active with their dance and karate instruction.  I have four dogs and two cats at home.  When it is time to relax I can usually be found spending time outdoors or cross-stitching.

I have always been able to relate better to animals than people.  I grew up in a household with parrots and dogs.  I got "my" first pet which I was five years old.  He was a twenty pound orange Tabby named Lucifer, but we called him Lucy Jane.  I would dress him in cabbage patch doll cloths and put make-up on him.  He was BEAUTIFUL and he knew it!

While in high school I shadowed a couple of different veterinary offices to see if this was a field that would

hold my interest.  I spent my after-school hours working at a large aviary which housed over 400 parrots.  It was there that I started training the baby birds to get them ready for a new home.  I did not recognize then that I would later build upon what I had learned training the birds to become a certified dog trainer.  It is truly amazing how training is utilized in each aspect of our lives without us realizing it!

I am an animal mommy to two rescued chihuahuas, a blue fronted amazon and a siamese mix kitty.  I also keep a quaint fresh-water fish tank.  I like to take my dogs on walks with me, or on hikes to Tallulah Gorge or Amicalola Falls.  They both love their social life!  I also enjoy spending time with my friends, reading and cooking.

I have been with Veterinary Care Center since 2014.  I love working here where I am surrounded by like-minded people.  I learn new things almost every day and I try and soak up information on pretty much everything I can wrap my mind around.

Kelly - Veterinary Assistant

I was born in Rockford, IL and raised here in Georgia, Through the years, I have also lived in Seattle, WA, Albuquerque, NM and Chattanooga, TN.  In 2010, I returned to Georgia, where I married my high school crush and boyfriend, Jay Benzel.  On our honeymoon, we hiked the Appalachain Trail and had an amazing adventure!

I have a 15 year history of working with animals.

I have volunteered at animal shelters, animal

rescues and worked at animal hospitals.  In my twenties I began working as a Veterinary Receptionist and learning how to assist the veterinarians with hands on training.  During this time, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.

When I am not working at Veterinary Care Center, I volunteer with Clyde's Camp and You Lucky Dog Rescue, which I enjoy walking adoptable dogs at local parks.  I love the fact that I am helping them gain exposure with local families and getting the word out that they are ready for a loving, forever home.  It gives me great satisfaction to konw that I am contributing to the well being of these rescue dogs.

In addition to spending time with the rescue dogs, I absolutely love spending quality time with my wonderful husband and my lovely step-daughter, Caroline.  We often take long hikes, camp and participate in just about any outdoor activity imaginable.  We have two rescued cats; a five year old calico named Mama Kali and her four year old daughter, Sami.  We also have a beautiful and sassy three year old Leonberger dog named Gwyndolyn, whih is a rescue as well.
